Journey Through the Valley of ....

David Barr

A sick child is adopted into a family but wrestles with her identity. Deathly ill, she dreams of a school in Uganda...

Can one person change the world? Charlene, my little sister, had every disadvantage imaginable: deathly sick with cystic fibrosis, abandoned at birth and adopted into a family. Struggling with her rejection at birth and her identity through adoption she is told she needs a double lung transplant. In her despair she dreams of building a school in Uganda. The story of her quest for her transplant and to raise the money for the school is both heart breaking and deeply inspiring.

Keith, I was drawn in from the offset by this, and found myself identifying quickly with much of the feelings of loss. I read through the first few chapters very quickly as the structure of your writing encouraged me to keep reading. I think you have captured the feeling of loss of a six year old... view book

This is excellent. I don't know what else to say. As soon as I started to read I was caught up by your prose and metaphors displaying the distance between Madge and Gerald and the memories of the past. It really draws the reader in and indeed the phrases used stretch and capture the reader. I will c... view book

Maretha I have read the first two chapters of your book and have been drawn in immediately. Having been in Africa I loved reading your descriptions and found myself smiling fondly when reading the stories. I really like your characterisation and like the whole idea of having the local words and the... view book
