about me

I am new to this. I have been written bits and pieces for a long time, mostly for children, but never very seriously. This is the first time I have attempted a book. I love the idea of this site - it's a great way to get feedback.
I have two children and work part time so have to squeeze writing into small chunks as and when I find time. My other hobbies are music, running and making excuses for not doing gardening.

favourite books

The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald
the Narnia series by CS Lewis
the Harry Potter books by JK Rowling
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
the Maisie Dobbs books by Jaqueline Winspear
Some Girls, Some Hats and Hitler - Trudi Kanter

Constance and the Castle

Ismene Bayes

Nothing in the job description could prepare Constance for dealing with feuding fairies and harnessing the fickle power of love to break accidental curses….

Constance needs a job, and Lord Pattersdale needs a secretary to help organise a May Ball to celebrate his son’s engagement. The lack of a bride-to-be however is only one of the problems which Constance must overcome in order to save the reclusive heir and his family from the consequences of a surfeit of fairy godmothers. As the night of the ball approaches can Constance prevent further magical mayhem, and what happens when love is free to work its own magic?

Hi - I read the pitch for this and it appealed to me. I have read the first 4 chapters and have not been disappointed. You created the character of Reuben Rudge very well, he is very believable and I found myself rooting for him very quickly. I felt that Becky's character was not as easy to imagine ... view book

Hi there. I realise that I am coming into this later than some of your other commenters (I know that's probably not a word) and have therefore read your first couple of chapters now that they have been uploaded. I don't know if you put the introductory bit in for the purposes of this forum or if tha... view book

Have now read all your posted chapters and I think that this is really good - it's a real page turner and one that would have kept me reading under the covers with a torch when I was younger! Your characters are interesting and each chapter makes you want to read the next one. PS (I think I want to... view book

Very different style than I am used to, but it is very effective. You manage to move the story forward while filling in the backstory without it slowing anything down. I wish you luck with this - I will keep it on my watchlist and hope to get back to read more. view book
