about me

I have been writing since I was a kid, although most of what I wrote ended up as adventures in role playing games. Life then sort of got in the way- career, kids- you know how it goes.

About two years ago I began a fantasy trilogy which i'm two books into and the first is being published by Fantasy Island Book Publishing. I've also done a MG/YA sci-fi book, with a dabble of Steampunk which is out with agents/publishers at the moment.

I frequent the amazing Alliance of Worldbuilders forum (to try and get cake) and the YARG forum. I'm focusing on reviewing YA and fantasy at the moment.

YARG (non-pirate) review. This is an original and intriguing piece of YA science-fiction. The concept behind it is great- it had the feel of a series on TV like Fringe, Medium, Lie to Me etc. I could see the huge potential within this. The plot builds well- I read to end chapter 4- and found the i... view book

Hi Thalia- definitely worth joining the Alliance forum! I have read your first chapter just now. It's excellent- you have a lyrical turn of phrase and attention to detail that is never over done. Within the first chapter you have effectively brought in significant amounts of history and setting wit... view book

Have read chapters 1 and 2. I'll admit that most of my children's book experience comes from reading with my 9 and 7 year old but as they're fairly good readers I've dipped into the 11+ range a reasonable amount (Jacqueline Wilson; Michael Lawrence; Alex Scarrow at moment). Your book compares very ... view book

Hi James, Ross again. Have now read all the uploaded chapters. The story is moving nicely and the ideas you have are excellent--i especially like the rarety of letters, given that the written word carries such power. The characterisation is good--the inquisitor especially has promise. some style po... view book

Hi James. Have read chapters 1 and 2 (well prologue and chapter 1 to be precise). Thought it a good stage to comment, although I plan to read the rest soon. Your premise is excellent and original. I've read fantasy for thirty years now and know it's difficult to be original in such a saturated Mark... view book
