SPLINTERS: The Trials of Inch ....

Nina Gibson

Why does everything have to change? Inch Bream's life is in pieces following his parents' divorce and no one seems to care.

His Dad, Jack, has a new partner Rachel and a new baby imminent; his Mum, Mia, is also pregnant and has a boyfriend Matt, but Inch is struggling to move on.

'Splinters' is a story pieced together from the fragmented thoughts of a teenage boy fighting for his life on an operating table following a car crash he thinks he caused.

His mixed up emotions warp his judgement and, in his fragile state, his mind constructs different realities for him to retreat into, based upon 'The Magic Mirror,' a story tape he once treasured when he was younger, and the significant adults in his life.

So, if the surgeons do succeed in saving Inch, will he ever be the same?

Good work. I would aim this at YA or adults and make Philip older since your voice is arch and knowing which indicates older readership. view book

I read this story earlier and found it captured the flavour of Cameroon well. If pushed to nitpick, I would only suggest some of the sentences are overlong. This can be rectified by following my golden rule of reading out aloud to a patient listener. It helps to rejig rhythm. It's amazing how many p... view book

Brilliant. Just one quibble. Has a monk ever been called Hermitage or is that an ekename to show he is detached from reality? view book
