about me

Several years ago I wrote The Goodbye Song. The controversial lyrics and the haunting melody have consistently sidelined the song's release. The Autobiography of Smokin' Joe Bidloe (fiction) is based on that song (one of the audio versions of the song can be downloaded---free---from www.rockylastinger.com).

In The Autobiography of Smokin' Joe Bidloe you will find gritty, quirky, sometimes outrageous humor to go along with the drama, romance, and suspense. If you are easily offended, it might not be for you.

My (recently posted) second offering, Duke of Earl, is also based on an original song, and offers a similar mix of suspense, romance, drama and humor--minus the supernatural undertow.

All comments and words of advice are greatly appreciated, and I have already implemented many of the earlier suggested changes.

The Autobiography of Smokin'Jo....

Rocky Lastinger

Rock star sets out to mimic wife's suicide on twentieth anniversary of hers, unaware that she'd actually been murdered. She reappears, determined to save him.

On the twentieth anniversary of his wife Leanne's untimely death, rock icon Smokey Bidloe travels to the location of her demise to read his autobiography. Burdened by decades of guilt (she died of an overdose after catching him cheating), he plans his own overdose, timing his death to coincide with the exact anniversary of hers, and on the same bed upon which she was found.

She...has other plans.

He finds her waiting there for him, at the tiny house they shared before he went on to fame and fortune.

An unusual combination of supernatural intensity and quirky, sometimes even outrageous humor as they relive their often tumultuous relationship through the reading of the book.

Storyline comparison? Ghost meets The Notebook.

Duke of Earl

Rocky Lastinger

A popular singer faces lethal injection fourteen years after killing the man who raped his daughter. 120,000 angry fans take exception; storm the prison gates.

Music icon Dudley Duke Earl is surprised to learn that he has a fourteen-year-old daughter--and in critical condition after a suicide attempt—following a sexual assault. He tracks down the rapist and kills him to save another young girl.

Now fourteen years later, Dudley’s pending execution brings massive unrest as unruly fans surround the Florida State Prison. After winning the death penalty conviction—by suborning the young girl’s testimony—the former prosecutor and now Florida Governor (and also viable presidential candidate) used the infamous trial to launch his political career. Dudley’s young attorney desperately tries to locate the now grown witness (he saved) as the governor sends a killer after both women—to protect his presidential run.

Meanwhile—hours away from execution, Dudley tells (to a friend on death row) the story of his romantic affair with the mother of his daughter and relates the events leading up to the killing.

Nice start with the fighting parents, and the listening son. An all too familiar refrain. Liked the back and forth between Jack and his father, and the small details, like his father’s complicity in disposing of the sugary evidence. A great kid-story. Thought his father’s nickname for the grandfa... view book

Ahhh--after having taken in eight foster children over the years, I am immediately drawn to Poppy. Especially since her eating habits mirror my own. AND SHE LOVES BOOKS! Porter seems to be an interesting, and somewhat mysterious, character from the get-go. Nice job on the dialogue. ‘the whole thing turned Porters stomach’--‘Porter’s’ needs an apostrophe. As does ‘Part of Porters job…’ Great concept, and excellent delivery in both narrative and dialogue sections. ... view book

Back for a return visit. Ahhh--the pain finally eases, and the tattoos are still there. And the mirror image is a wonderful twist, and unexpected. As was the mother’s appearance and the explanation given for her long absence from the lives of her daughters. And was that a dream, or vision? The t... view book
